THe Magic Sock

As Morning broke, sleep fell away
and families begin their day.
Sweet Lily Bug let out yawn
and blinked and winked her sleepies gone.

She'd had a dream the night before
that she no longer crawled the floor.
She walked and ran and jumped up high
She'd skipped and flipped and touched the sky.

Oh how she longed for that fine day
when dreams came true and she could play
upon her feet instead of knees
but it took a type of expertise
that poor Lily bug would surely lack
so as she lay upon her back
she made a vow that she would walk
that very day by 1 o’clock.

So Mommy came and with an embrace
took Lily from her sleeping place.
She filled her tum with jam and bread
and thought about the task ahead.

How does a kid that’s only one
learn to walk and skip and run.
She sat upon the floor that day
as minutes began to tick away
And pondered how to pull off this feat
and get her butt above her feet.

She tried and tried all day long
but every try was always wrong
She fell on her bum a bunch
she fell before and after lunch.
She fell in almost every place
she even fell upon her face

She’d nearly given up her dream
when suddenly she saw a gleam
from the corner of her eye
a sock of white Lily did spy

As she placed it in her hand
her legs suddenly tried to stand
she place the sock between her teeth
her butt shot up her feet beneath!

O magic sock please help me walk
it’s very close to one o’clock.

With Sock in mouth and hands held out
Sweet Lily Bug did walk about
She walked all over home that day
upon her feet she got to play.

She walked about the kitchen floor.
She walked the hallway door to door.
Lily tiptoed north and south
and east and west with sock in mouth

As one o'clock had come and gone
and nap time came with one big yawn
In her crib Lily did lay
and thought about her special day.

She wondered how a simple sock
could really teach her how to walk.
And as her thoughts began to drift
She thanked God for her special gift.
